The environment: A corporate project led by Christopher Guérin

On Friday, March 14, at 11 a.m., in the UNESCO conference hall, where the gathering was held, Christopher Guérin, CEO of Nexans, spoke about the role of businesses in the ecological transition during a roundtable discussion on the theme: “Who Will Save the Planet? Politics, Business, Citizens?”

In conversation with inspiring figures, Christopher Guérin emphasized the need for businesses to incorporate their social and environmental impact into their financial statements and results.

We have entered a form of economic sobriety. Our goal is to reduce the cost of complexity, to move away from the race for volume and into a virtuous circle where we retain precisely the customers who will enable us to grow economically. This will allow us to meet the dual challenge of our carbon footprint.

What future with artificial intelligence?

At the heart of contemporary discussions, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its current and future impact played a central role in the event. Jérôme Fournier, Nexans’ Vice President for Innovation, Services, and Growth, spoke at the conference “AI: An (Excessive) Cost for the Planet?”

He explained that the exponential growth of AI relies on a massive infrastructure: data centers, the true beating hearts of the digital world. However, behind this technological revolution lies a critical challenge—their energy impact.

Data centers must shift from being mere energy consumers to active contributors, generating and managing their own power through dedicated microgrids. We need to optimize how we use AI and leverage it to make data centers more efficient, reducing unnecessary consumption.

Two days of exhibition for the Fondation Nexans

The Université de la Terre 2025 marked a significant milestone for Fondation Nexans, offering it a unique opportunity to showcase its work to a broad audience by hosting a booth at UNESCO for two days.

The program features: an exhibition of completed projects, a presentation of its core missions, discussions with partner NGOs.

The outcome is very positive. We are thrilled by the enthusiasm of participants for the Fondation Nexans and its missions. Our projects carry real meaning and strongly resonate with the event’s theme, Nature = Future. The Fondation Nexans belongs at this event because we contribute to a more sustainable electrification, and the public clearly recognized that.
