Nexans is taking a bold step forward in its commitment to sustainability and climate action. The Group is proud to announce that the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially approved its net-zero commitment, reinforcing the company’s pledge aligned with the Paris Agreement’s goals.

As one of the biggest companies in the electrification sector to have validated by the SBTi its near-term and long-term targets, Nexans is setting a new standard for sustainability, reaffirming the company’s commitment to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain.

Nexans’ Targets: A Commitment to Carbon Reduction

Nexans’ commitments are twofold, encompassing both near-term and long-term goals:

  • Near-Term Targets

– Nexans commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 46.2% by 2030 from a 2019 base year*.
– Nexans also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 30% within the same timeframe*.

  • Long-Term Targets

– Nexans commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2019 base year*.
– Nexans also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90% within the same timeframe*.

These interim targets pave the way for Nexans to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, demonstrating a long-term vision of sustainability. This ambitious goal underscores Nexans’ leading role in creating sustainable electrification solutions while actively contributing to the fight against climate change. The SBTi validation reflects not just intentions but concrete actions and plans that are already in motion.

A Commitment Backed by Concrete Action

Over the past few years, Nexans has already implemented transformative changes across its operations.

To meet these ambitious goals, Nexans has outlined several strategic levers that will drive its decarbonization efforts. These actions span across plant operations, energy efficiency, and the development of sustainable products, reflecting Nexans’ multi-faceted approach to sustainability:

  • Optimizing Plant Operations (Scopes 1, 2, and 3)

Nexans is focused on reducing emissions across its production processes by optimizing energy consumption. This includes improving operational efficiency across its plants and minimizing carbon emissions in both upstream and downstream activities.

  • Improving Energy Efficiency (Scopes 1 & 2)

Energy efficiency is a key lever in Nexans’ strategy to lower its carbon footprint. The company is committed to reducing its reliance on non-renewable energy by integrating more renewable energy sources into its operations, either through on-site production or purchasing renewable electricity.

  • Developing Sustainable Products (Scope 3)

Nexans continues to innovate by offering low-carbon products and solutions. By optimizing the use of materials and collaborating with suppliers who are aligned with its decarbonization targets, Nexans is ensuring that its products contribute to lowering emissions throughout the value chain.

This approval is a testament to our holistic approach to sustainability and our relentless pursuit of meaningful climate action. It proves that our commitments are underpinned by robust, actionable plans. We are not only committed to decarbonizing our operations, but also to helping our customers and partners lower their own carbon footprints through innovative solutions. For Nexans, sustainability is not just a goal – it’s a responsibility we take seriously every day.
